Welcome to Horror & Shrill where I recommend a horror film for weekend viewing from one of the available streaming services (Netflix, Shudder, Hulu and Amazon).  The Autopsy of Jane Doe  (available on both Hulu  (most have Showtime add-on and Amazon Prime ) Directed by Andre Ovredal, The Autopsy of Jane Doe weaves a clever and suspenseful supernatural story of father and son coroners, Tommy (Brian Cox) and Austin (Emile Hirsch). When a Jane Doe corpse that was found buried in the basement of a murder site is wheeled into their morgue, this arrival will make their night anything, but routine. As the night progresses, both father and son each experience unnerving horror as every slice and dissect of Jane Doe pulls them further into madness.  I honestly can't recommend this movie enough, it's absolutely one of my favorite horror films of 2017! It has earned the distinction of remaining on my permanent list of top 10 best horror films. Wh...

I understand there's a real struggle for horror fans and fans in general to fully embrace the world of subtitled horror. So, before you say, "Evil, I don't watch movies to read them" or "I hate subtitles they're so boring!" or "I just can't with subtitles!". Hear me out, by avoiding subtitled horror you are missing out on some outstanding horror films that rival their counterpart. Not to mention you are opting out of a good portion of the Foreign Horror sub-genre! Now everything takes small steps, that's why I've curated some horror films that can be your starting point! When Veronica and her friends decide to contact the other side with a Ouija board during an eclipse, what they unleash is so demonic it will destroy Veronica's grip with reality as well as effect all those around her. When released, Veronica made the rounds and was touted as "the scariest movie ever", "terrifying" and "disturbi...

As a fan of all mediums of horror with comic books being a big part of it, I was glad I got a chance to read Ra X's and Darrell Smith's Twilight Hotel. Although I missed the initial Kickstarter for their first issue, I had the opportunity to experience it first hand and I'll tell you, you can believe the hype! Touted with influences of The Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, Twilight Hotel incorporates all those elements and fuses them into a well written and illustrated first issue. With the success of their first Kickstarter , Twilight Hotel returns with another crowd-sourcing endeavor to bring all 4 issues to fans. This horror volume includes "Head of the Tale", "Bed Bugs", "Truth or Consequences" and "Pushing Up Daises", with the stories including serial killers, man eating bugs and zombies, there's a little bit of everything to keep a horror fan entertained. You can checkout the press release below for more on Twilight...

I had the pleasure of reviewing Richard Rowntree's award-winning horror film, Dogged for anythinghorror.com . I thoroughly enjoyed it and I hoped that Richard would continue on the path of horror and I'm glad to see that holds true with his newest horror film, Nefarious, which tells the story of a home invasion gone horrifically wrong! The film is currently being crowdfunded on Kickstarter , you can checkout the press release below for more info on Nefarious, as well as how to pledge and how to follow the film's progress through social media! Welcome to my new section, Horror and Shrill where I recommend a horror film for weekend viewing from one of the streaming services available (Netflix, Shudder, Hulu and Amazon).  Beyond the Gates (Netflix) Brothers Gordon (Graham Skipper) and John (Chase Williamson), who've let distance fracture their relationship are forced to come together in order to close their missing father's video store. While rummaging through old VHS tapes and reminiscing about their childhood, they stumble upon a board game entitled "Beyond the Gates" that could hold the clue to their father's disappearance, but that's if they can survive to the end of the game. I'd heard mixed reviews on this, but I gave it a go anyway and I wasn't disappointed that I did, and neither should you. It's got an 80's style vibe  that I can totally relate too  and t he return of horror icon Barbara Crampton as the game's narrator, Evelyn, was a delightful bonus. The plot i...

Welcome to my new section, Horror & Shrill where I recommend a horror film for weekend viewing from one of the streaming services available (Netflix, Shudder, Hulu and Amazon).  Kristy Directed by Oliver Blackburn, Kristy tells the story of Justine (Haley Bennett) a college student, who decides to stay on campus during the Thanksgiving holiday, but instead of enjoying a peaceful week she finds herself fighting for her life against a group of killers.  I know this has been out on Netflix for quite some time, but it's still worth a mention since its one of the quality horror flicks that Netflix has streaming. Honestly, I didn't expect much from this film other than the tired old troupes our genre is used to having. Thankfully I was presently surprised how clever and engaging it was throughout. The acting is solid and the tension and revenge aspect are steady in the film.  What are you watching this weekend? Let me know  @horrorevilqueen

Horror is filled with fun facts, folklore and urban legends and what better way to celebrate the genre then with some fun horror facts. H ere are few fun horror facts you may or may not heard.  1.  During pre-production of Jaws producers believed you could capture a great white shark and train it to do the shark stunts in the film. 2.  In the book 101 Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die by author Steven Jay, it does not list either Ridley Scott's Alien nor James Cameron's Aliens. 3.  In Pet Semetary's Victor Pascow (played by Brad Greenquist), the runner that was struck by a truck, died and came back to warn Louis Creed is categorized in John Landis's Book of Monsters as a zombie. 4.  In Michael Bay's remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jessica Biel's character, Erin was actually suppose to be pregnant.  In a deleted scene, she tells Kemper before they pick up the hitchhiker and in turn arrive at the farmhouse.  It was scraped becaus...

This promo trailer is bittersweet for me because on one hand I'm extremely excited for the new season of Bates Motel, but I also know it's the last season. This horror series has been a steady slow burn with some great payout for viewers with new twists and turns and character additions. Speaking of which, I'm quite curious to see how Rihanna does as Marion Crane.  The final season of Bates Motel starts February 20th on  A&E .

Happy Friday the 13th! There are anywhere from 1 to 3 Friday the 13th's a year! Here's a little bit about this much celebrated horror holiday and the lore about the number 13. There's actually a psychological phobia associated with the fear of Friday the 13th it's called Paraskevidekatriaphobia. This horror holiday has millions of people scared for the doom this day could bring. Triskaidekaphobia is a fear of the number 13. In a hangman's noose there are 13 twists in the rope and 13 steps to the gallows. Tupac Shakur was killed in Las Vegas on Friday the 13th. There is not a 13th Avenue in New York nor do most buildings have a 13th floor. There are no Formula One cars with the number 13. The origins of the number 13th and it's superstitious qualities hearken back to ancient times because the number followed 12, which was considered a completeness in nature. Which explains why there are 12 signs of Zodiac, 12 numbers on a clock and 12 months a y...
