31 Days of Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #13 - Curse of Chucky

Image
Curse of Chucky - When Nico, bound to a wheelchair receives an unexpected package containing a Good Guy doll named Chucky she soon realizes that this delivery is anything but special. With the dismissal addition to this franchise with Seed of Chucky this movie had no where to go, but up and thankfully it did.  In this installment we find Chucky terrorizing a new family and his reasoning for this family in particular is a pretty good one.  The story moved along quite well and I really enjoyed the look and feel of the sets and house. The acting was better than standard direct to dvd movies are and Brad Dourif's daughter was quite good. My biggest complaint about the movie was the sub par kills. I've always felt that each installment should out do the previous movies in terms of kills and this one just didn't. Overall, even with my kill complaints it was still an enjoyable movie with some surprising moments.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #11- Razorback

Image
Razorback - Set in the Australian outback this film tells the story of a man's search for revenge against the wild boar that killed his grandchild and an American searching for his missing wife. I remember watching this movie when I was younger and really enjoying it. Although I still enjoy it the movie doesn't really hold up over time. The 2 paraell stories take awhile to merger together with some random psychedelic moments (as I like to call them) thrown in that really didn't add anything to the story. The acting is pretty standard and the editing needs some work. There are some nice horror moments and seeing the boar in all it's glory is worth the trip...but only partly.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #10 - Ghost Shark

Image
Ghost Shark -  A mystical cave has the power to turn a dying shark into a transparent ghost shark  with the ability to attack anyone as long as their is water around. Yes, it's a SyFy Original film so that right there should be review enough! The movie has everything that makes a SyFy channel original film so bad....terrible acting, ripped off scenes and dialogue from Jaws, Jaws 3 and Deep Blue Sea, a transparent shark that has a never ending appetite even though it's a ghost, annoying characters you just wish would hurry up and die, ridiculous death scenes and some of the worst CGI the small screen has ever seen! Overall, if you have no standards in horror movie viewing (which apparently neither do I) you might enjoy this, but I think you would rather be attacked by a real shark then sit through this film.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #9 - The Haunting of Whaley House

Image
Penny is a tour guide for the most haunted house in America, the Whaley House, although she doesn't believe in ghosts. But, when her friends convince her to give them an after hours tour of the home it turns into the most horror filled night of their lives. I am always pretty skeptical of anything on "based on a true story" , but the Whaley House is a real place with a real horror history. I feared from the description that the movie was going to be a found footage film, but thankfully it wasn't. This movie had a nice mixture creepy scenes, bloody moments and underlining humor that helped to make it worth a tour.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #8 - Wake Wood

Image
Wake Wood - When Patrick and Louise's daughter, Alice is killed by a dog they move to Wake Wood to start over. When their car breaks down one night, searching for help, Louise stumbles upon a pagen ritual perfomed by the townspeople to which they are later given the offer of having 3 more days with their daughter. But, they will soon learn that their deal with the town will cost them more than 3 days. This film does have a Wicker Man/ Pet Semetary vibe.  I have to say even with all the things that were going on throughout the film it still felt slow moving, but the scattered gory scenes (which were a pleasant surprise) made up for it's pace. Overall, if you can look past the slow pace and the rip off scenes from Pet Semetary, Wake Wood is still worth the trip.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #7 - The Moth Diaries

Image
When Rebecca returns to boarding school she hopes reuniting with her best friend Lucy will help her deal with her father's death. But when a new classmate, Erissa arrives and befriends Lucy, Becca starts to believe her new classmate maybe a vampire. At first glance I figured this would play out like a CW style movie, but thankfully it didn't. The movie carries a slightly creepy and haunting vibe to it, which I did not expect. I will admit there wasn't anything super extraordinary about it, but it was still enjoyable.

31 Day Horror Movie Challenge - Movie #6 - The Nightmare Before Christmas

Image
All hail the Pumpkin King! When Jack Skellington becomes tired of celebrating Halloween he goes in search of something else, but what he discovers may not end up as jolly as he had hoped. This is such a great film and is required viewing during both the Halloween and Christmas season. Danny Elfman's music brings Jack Skellington's search for something better than Halloween to celebrate to life. This movie encompasses so many great elements of horror and music and weaves them into an enjoyable movie that is made for any age.
