5 Favorite Scream Queens
Today''s session consisted of listing a few of my favorite things.....so of course I list off my favorite women in horror!
Dee Wallace Stone She will always be my #1 Scream Queen! If you watched horror in the 80's there was a good chance that Dee Wallace Stone was part of it. With her turns in Cujo, The Howling, Critters,The Hills Have Eyes, Alligator II and E.T. it was hard to avoid her horror presence. I loved seeing her return to horror in Rob Zombie's Lords of Salem. I had the opportunity to meet her and the rumors about her being one of the nicest people were true. When it comes time for the 31 Days of Horror Movie Challenge her movies will be revisited.
Danielle Harris - I have followed Danielle's career since her role in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and I feel like I have grown up with her. One of the many things that I love about her other than the fact she is incredibly nice is that she started out in horror and still remains in horror and contributes to the genre in a positive way. Her directorial debut with Among Friends will be released August 27, 2013 (pre-order here).
Soska Sisters - Much like a lot of people I was introduced to Jen and Sylvia Soska through their film American Mary, which I loved. If you have ever watched an interview with them you can't help but love their infectious fun behavior and their love of the genre. Having grown up on horror they have the love, passion and respect for the genre that is sorely lacking from a lot of people in this genre. You will be able to see them in action again when they direct the sequel to See No Evil (website).
Sheri Moon Zombie - Whatever you are going to say to me about Sheri Moon Zombie I have already heard before and frankly I don't care. I absolutely loved her role as Baby Firefly in both House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects and I don't think anyone else could have played that character better. I also really enjoyed her role as Heidi in Lords of Salem. Think what you will of her, but she is a fun spirit in the horror genre.
Jane Levy - Even though this appears to be her first foray into the horror genre I was really impressed by her turn as Mia in the remake of Evil Dead. I loved what she brought to the role with the great balance of realism and horror that so few actress can pull off completely. I do hope she continues in the horror genre with her new movie In a Dark Place because I welcome her future horror roles.
Katharine Isabelle - With her turns in Ginger Snaps, Freddy vs. Jason and of course American Mary I am hoping that Katharine will continue to be a regular fixture in the horror scene because to put it frankly I just love her!
Chole Grace Mortez - Even with her age her movie resume is what most actresses would kill for, but her roles in horror flicks as Let Me In, Amityville Horror (remake), Dark Shadows and also her turn as Hit Girl in Kick Ass is what got my attention. I think she is an actress with style, grace, pose and humor that you find lacking in today's actresses. As a horror fan you sometimes just sit and wait for the right actress to come along who you can picture as someone you could forever watch in horror movies....and I think she is it. I am really looking forward to her turn as Carrie White in the remake of Stephen King's Carrie, which I am hoping will solidify her role as a scream queen!
