Horror & Shrill: Netfix

Welcome to my new section, Horror and Shrill where I recommend a horror film for weekend viewing from one of the streaming services available (Netflix, Shudder, Hulu and Amazon).

Beyond the Gates (Netflix)

Brothers Gordon (Graham Skipper) and John (Chase Williamson), who've let distance fracture their relationship are forced to come together in order to close their missing father's video store. While rummaging through old VHS tapes and reminiscing about their childhood, they stumble upon a board game entitled "Beyond the Gates" that could hold the clue to their father's disappearance, but that's if they can survive to the end of the game.

I'd heard mixed reviews on this, but I gave it a go anyway and I wasn't disappointed that I did, and neither should you. It's got an 80's style vibe that I can totally relate too and the return of horror icon Barbara Crampton as the game's narrator, Evelyn, was a delightful bonus. The plot is not completely flawless and the special effects are a bit wonky, but it still has a charm that horror movies seem to miss. Overall, if you are looking for a horror film to shrill this weekend, Beyond the Gates is one movie you'll want to play!

What are you watching this weekend? Let me know @horrorevilqueen
