6 of the Best Subtitled Horror on Netflix
I understand there's a real struggle for horror fans and fans in general to fully embrace the world of subtitled horror. So, before you say, "Evil, I don't watch movies to read them" or "I hate subtitles they're so boring!" or "I just can't with subtitles!". Hear me out, by avoiding subtitled horror you are missing out on some outstanding horror films that rival their counterpart. Not to mention you are opting out of a good portion of the Foreign Horror sub-genre! Now everything takes small steps, that's why I've curated some horror films that can be your starting point!
When Veronica and her friends decide to contact the other side with a Ouija board during an eclipse, what they unleash is so demonic it will destroy Veronica's grip with reality as well as effect all those around her.
When released, Veronica made the rounds and was touted as "the scariest movie ever", "terrifying" and "disturbing". Although I wouldn't have used the above words to describe this film, I will tell you it lives up to being a solid foreign horror film, with some twists, turns and genuine scares, that even subtitles shouldn't keep you away.
In the mist of a zombie outbreak a father and daughter fight though the horrors of survival during their train journey to a safe zone city.
This one has been on the horror radar for a minute and continues its word of mouth recommendation, which it rightfully deserves. It does follow the path of traditional zombie fare, but it pads those rules with real emotion and terror. There's also an animated prequel to this film, entitled Seoul Station, which is currently being shown on Shudder.
With the Japanese government fed up with unruly and disrespectful youth, a class is randomly chosen to be sent to an island to fight to the death, with the condition only one can come out a winner.
I had actually put off watching this film for quite some, but when I finally got to it I thoroughly enjoyed all the carnage it had to bring. Which left me feeling that what can you say about Battle Royale, other than it all is, but required foreign horror viewing and it's a great first film for someone new to subtitled horror.
When a group of scientists at a research station in the Alps discover a mysterious liquid coming from the mountain, they soon realize this is more than they can handle as their team begins experiencing inexplicable horrors due to the liquids genetic modification abilities.
I know the title alone can be a turn off for some, it was for me for quite sometime until I decided to give it a chance and I'm glad I did. There was real horror love put into this film and it moves in the vein of John Carpenter's The Thing. I went into this film thinking I was going to get one thing and I ended it with getting so much more.
(Note: Netflix gives an option to watch it with an English dubbed, when I originally watched it, I watched it with subtitles)
When a group of college kids tracking a killer bear come across a hunter in the woods. They soon realize that it might not be a bear they have been looking for after all.
Much like Blood Glacier, the title of Troll Hunter doesn't scream quality horror, but don't let that stop you because this is one of the best crafted "found footage" genre films and the special effects are more than worth it to see.

A group of people from all walks of life, band together to survive in a world where the undead rule!
Another zombie fare, but this takes a more visceral look of an outbreak. Although it has the basic foundation workings of the zombie genre, it makes it's own way with the evolution of a zombie with some unexpected outcomes.
